“Golden Triangle Tour”
I traveled with 3 girlfriends to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, the Golden Triangle tour. After doing many hours of research online, I decided to go with Trinetra Tours based on TripAdvisor reviews. Turns out, it was a very good decision. Mahendra, the owner, is very prompt with email replies and suggested an itinerary based on our plans. I also did my own research and made suggestions and he was very open to my input, as well. Upon arriving in Delhi, we were picked up by our driver and the tour guide supervisor who were waiting just outside the airport. They took us to our hotel and we were briefed once we checked in on what the itinerary looked like for the day. Also, throughout the trip, the supervisor checked in with us each night to make sure things were going well. There was a mix up with the size of the van, but Mahendra took care of this for us and the issue was solved quickly. I would recommend paying extra for the larger van, especially if you are driving from city to city on the Golden Triangle tour. The smaller van just does not have enough room for luggage and passengers can't recline the chairs and sleep because the space is too small. We received a new tour guide in each city, all who were knowledgeable, pleasant and patient. Our favorite was author Dinesh Kapoor from New Delhi. He knew much about the city of Delhi and was very easy to talk to, understand and had a great sense of humor. We stayed two nights in New Delhi (Marriot), 1 night in Agra (Oberoi), 3 nights in Jaipur (Marriot) and then drove back to Delhi to stay one more night at the Marriot before leaving. All in all, we loved seeing the Taj Mahal (Agra is not very nice outside of the Taj- 1 night was perfect), wish we would have stayed one less night in Jaipur (shopping wasn't that great but the city was nicer than Delhi) and wished we had one more day in Delhi (shopping is the best here and we loved the Khaan Market). Our favorite tour destination: Amber Fort in Jaipur. It was absolutely gorgeous and full of interesting facts and historical remnants. We took many pictures here and loved hearing about the history. Instead of the elephant ride up to the top, we took a Jeep instead. Our least favorite place in India: We took a tuk-tuk ride through Old Delhi and felt very unsafe there. Two things were thrown at us by the locals (an orange peel and something else) while we were driving through the streets and my friend got pelted by a cricket ball as youngsters were playing in the streets. We are glad we took the short tour through Old Delhi but would have felt safer if we had our husbands with us. Old Delhi is mostly a Muslim population and we found it to be dirtier and felt very uneasy being there based on stares from men and the two incidences upon which things were thrown at us. Throughout the tour, the guides do tend to take you to places where they get a commission, which was somewhat annoying at times. However, we understood it as being part of their culture and asked to be taken to places on our list, like Anouki, Fab India, etc. After returning to Singapore, we discovered the food was better tasting in India. Also, the masala tea is much better there too.We are very happy with our experience with Trinetra Tours and would recommend it to other travelers in search of a reliable and trustworthy tour company in India.
