A three week tour of India, Bhutan and Nepal with a great tour company!!
This is more a review of Trinetra Tours rather than of the tour itself. I had been interested in a trip to the region for some time and visited Trip Advisor in order to identify a good tour. It was here that I learned of Trinetra and I started an e mail conversation with them that went on for almost a year as they designed a custom tour for me. They were very attentive to my wants and put together a private tour for me that included Delhi, Agra, Ranthambhore, Jaipur, Varanasi, Bhutan and Nepal where I saw some amazing things. They even arranged an evening with an Indian family for me that included a brief cooking class. My level of trust in a distant company went a way up when they sent me, unrequested, a list of Canadians that had used their services in the past including their contact information (they specifically ask you at the end of your tour if you are willing to let them pass your name on like this). I got in touch with about a half dozen of these prior clients and got glowing reports from them all. I can now say that I concur completely with their comments. For the kind of tour - private, solo, four and five star hotels, a lot of meals, business class flights where available - I did not find the tour to be overly expensive. The guides and drivers that met me at every destination were fantastic and it was so reassuring to see someone waiting for you outside the terminal with your name on a card. The guides were knowledgeable and sometimes it felt like you were enrolled in a university course. The drivers would all be in jail in North America for the way they drive but that is the way they have to drive there in order to get anywhere. There was often a local Trinetra representative that met me at my various destinations. All of these people, drivers, guides and reps, were friendly, helpful and informative. Seemingly no request was too much. Trinetra never pushed for money or wanted a bunch of money up front. They were extremely honest and honorable. When I canceled a couple of flights, within a day or two, they refunded the cost of these in cash. There was only one hotel out of the 10 or 12 I stayed in that I personally didn't care for and they offered to change it if I wanted. My brief comments.on the 3 countries I visited. I was surprised by (a) the degree to which religion is interwoven with people's daily lives, and (b) the high level of security in India and Nepal. In India, and to a lesser extent in Nepal, the crowds, noise, smells, etc. are just a sensory overload. After a day of touring, one is ready for some peace and quiet in a nice hotel. In Bhutan, you are there as a source of foreign exchange. The country is beautiful, small, relatively unpopulated, clean and orderly - the polar opposite of India - but I always felt that the guides were as much keepers as guides - nice and knowledgeable but also there to ensure you follow the rules. Nepal is kind of a toned down version of India. Avoid the airport in Kathmandu as much as possible - it is small, crowded, ultra bureaucratic and just frustrating to use. Overall a great, if not relaxing, vacation. I saw so much and learned a bit about the region. I could not have seen a fraction of what I did without Trinetra.
